Friday, January 28, 2011 ANPP Governoship Candidate Assasinated today in Borno State Late Modu Fannami Gubio The ANPP Gubernatorial candidate in Borno State, Engr Modu Fannami Gubio, was assassinated this afternoon while paying a visit to his family home in Maiduguri. Two assailants who came in two motor cycles opened fire at him immediately he came out of the house, then started shooting randomly, killing 6 other people who were in his company. Engr. Gubio was the Commissioner of Finance in Borno and the cousin to the Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff. He was picked as the ANPP Governorship candidate 14th of this month. Those killed alongside him are Alhaji Goni Sheriff, younger brother to the Borno State Governor, two security officers attached to the aspirant and four other ANPP stalwarts.

ROBBERS TRY TO ROB LAGOS BANK WITH EXPLOSIVES. By SEYE OJO and CHRISTOPHER ORJI Saturday, January 22, 2011 Armed robbers in the early hours of yesterday allegedly bombed a new generation bank in Ayobo, a Lagos Suburb. It was gathered that the gunmen, numbering about 50, stormed the bank at about 1. 30a.m and operated for three hours. A visit to the bank showed that its bulletproof security doors were smashed with a powerful explosive. Oscar Nominations: Who Got Dissed and Who Got Some Surprise Love
The Academy Award nominations were released this morning and were full of snubs and surprises. The biggest diss was an obvious one: 'Inception' director Christopher Nolan, whose film received eight nominations including best picture, failed to score a best director nomination. Mila Kunis , Ryan Gosling and Michael Douglas , all of whom were shortlisted by critics groups and the Golden Globes in the lead-up to the noms and were expected to be on the ballot, also all failed to land nominations. With 12 nods, 'The King's Speech' leads all nominees with the Coen brothers' box office smash 'True Grit' hot on its tail with a surprise 10 nominations, and while the 'Social Network' scored an impressive eight nods (tied with 'Inception' for third best), supporting players Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake didn't feel any Oscar love. Dr. Conrad Murray Pleads Not Guilty in Michael Jackson's Death
Dr. Conrad Murray pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson on Tuesday, setting up a high-profile trial in which prosecutors will try to prove it was his gross negligence that killed the legendary singer. Katherine Jackson and her son Randy were among family members that attended the arraignment hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court. If convicted, Murray could face a maximum of four years in prison. His medical license has been suspended pending the outcome of the trial. If found guilty, Murray will likely never practice medicine again. Murray has been the focal point of an investigation since Jackson died June 25, 2009, at age 50. Murray acknowledged that he administered the hospital anesthetic propofol and other sedatives as Jackson, a chronic insomniac, struggled to sleep.
