HARD TIMES FALLS ON SEN. TOKUNBOH AFIKUYOMI ......Goes Bankrupt
Sen. Tokunbo Afikuyomi’s bizarre lifestyle has had a cumulative effect on the Lagos State commissioner for tourism and intergovernmental relations’ finances, wecan reveal. The two time senator is said to have fallen on bad times- No thanks to his wasteful use of his resources.
Even his health his failing owing to his oversexed life style. Sources said that the randy senator is plagued by a serious backache, which is born out of unbridled sexual activity. In fact, it was said that he engaged the services of a physiotherapist and a masseur to help him out with the nagging backache. A curious paradox, it is also said that after Sen.Afikuyomi has been massaged by the female masseur, he allegedly sleeps with the lady most times.
We were told that the manner government properties develop wings in recent times in Alausa, the seat of government is very alarming. Fixtures and fittings and whatnot were being pilfered by unscrupulous civil servants, government officers and politicians alike. A sad commentary, the heist did not go unnoticed by the authorities.
Just recently there was a circular from the Head of Service Office to that effect. In the circular to all the people working within the premises, the office reiterated its commitment to the protection of government properties, and warned perpetrators of the wrongful act to desist.
However, if that circular discouraged some potential offender, not Sen. Afikuyomi. It is alleged that he moved some furniture and artworks in his block 10 office, which are properties of Lagos State government to his private office in Yaba, and his wine shop in Ikoyi, and brought worn out furniture to replace them.
We further learnt that Sen. Afikuyomi’s dire financial strait has come to his father in-law, Prince Bola Ajibola’s knowledge. It was said that the former World Court judge and justice minister recently opened a law firm for his lawyer daughter who is married to the stony broke senator in Opebi. This kind gesture in part was to help his son in-law to meet his household expenses.
That Sen.Afikuyomi is broke also became obvious after Dr. Bode Sowande’s book launch, which he attended and pledged a sum of money. Several months after the event, the Awe-born senator has not redeemed his pledge. Not even the persistence of the Special Assistant to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola on Speech, Amos Esele who has been pestering him swayed him.
Sources said that the only visible lifeline for Sen. Afikuyomi to bounce back is the controversial Sunborn Yacht Hotel, which is a subject of litigation between him (Multi-Purpose Infrastructural Development Company, MIDC) and Diamond Bank. The area of contention is the ownership of the yacht. An expensive white elephant project, Diamond Bank, which bankrolled it, is asking the court to award the bank, the custody of the yacht.
But MIDC would not hear anything like that. A public private partnership initiative, the company, which is owned by the senator, fronted for him in the 105-bed floating hotel deal. An abuse of office and privileges, Sen.Afikuyomi who has more than a passing interest in MIDC, covered up his involvement in the company.
